DAY 4 | Oran - Iruya River Camp

Wednesday 09/21/2022

Breakfast through, we'll take the provisions

necessary for the next camp and we will start the

on the way to Isla de Cañas. Once there we will start

go up the great Iruya River through its imposing canyon.

The landscape of the yungas dominates the entire environment and gives it a

unique beauty.

As we gain height we will pass by a couple of

small populated places, Limoncito and Matancillas, where also

there are schools where we can take some donations. These

places in a couple of months will already be isolated by the growing

of the river with the summer rains and this landscape will go from beautiful to tremendous,

but people go on with their lives only on top of the hills.

By sunset we will be arriving at the site of our camp

wild, to set up the tents, light the stove and prepare dinner

while we share a unique moment in a very special place.

DAY 5 | Iruya River Camp - Iruya

Thursday 09/22/2022

After having breakfast and breaking camp, we will begin the end of the expedition, arriving first at Angosto del Cebilar, one of the points where the river usually complicates its passage after each summer flood.

From now on, already between gigantic mountains we will be able to see the village of Isluga and then that of Volcán Higueras, next to the Nazareno tributary. In the afternoon, we will be arriving at the desired town of Iruya, located on the banks of the Coranzulí River.

We will stay and share the farewell dinner at the Hostería Iruya.

DAY 6 | Iruya – Purmamarca

Friday 09/23/2022

San Isidro

It is located about 8 km from the city of Iruya and its

350 inhabitants are distributed in 6 neighborhoods: Pueblo Viejo

(the most important), Pumayoc, La Laguna, Trihuasi, La

Palmera and La Cueva In order to get there, it is necessary to go

the river path from Iruya to the north. In said tour

you can see different landscapes of great natural beauty

including the traditional viewpoint of the Molino de los Yambis.

Hornacal viewpoint (hill of the 14 colors)

According to geologists it is a sedimentary formation

stratified by the Yacoraite formation (a colored limestone

ochre, yellow, green and whitish where the copper did not oxidize)

from the end of the Cretaceous period, 75 million years ago, when

dinosaurs lived. It is bounded by other formations

sedimentary of intense red color, which mark an impressive contrast.

Purmamarca

In Purmamarca we stayed for the night

Perhaps it is the most picturesque town in the Quebrada de Humahuaca

although geographically it belongs to another transverse ravine of the same name, surrounded

by multicolored saws. The wide Quebrada de Purmamarca resembles a great valley facing

to the Rio Grande. The cacti are typical of the ecosystem of the hills and give the region its own characteristic.
